The third month of Breaking perceptions

Age of Blog: 3 months

Number of visitors: 1271! (calculated by adding the number of visitors before our malfunctions to the number now)

Some of the topics covered: music, discrimination, sexuality, freedom, celebrations

Some of the countries that have visited the blog: South Africa, Colombia, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, Thailand

Robyn's favourite post of the month: What would you do? Racism against Muslims - Islamophobia is one of the huge issues that we face today and I was as glad to see people standing up against it as I was worried when people supported it or did nothing.

Cortez's favourite post of the month: What would you do? Hate crime in progress -This is an issue around the world. People are hurting people because of slight differences. The fact that few people intervened shows me that the world has a long way to go. But not everyone is like this and as I am sure you know there are beings who make it their life's work to help others in need.

The best comment of the month: Hayley Solich commented on What would you do? Hate crime in progress, saying "When I was 18 years of age I witnessed 2 men attacking another with a crow bar in Bondi Beach, Australia. I stepped in and stopped them hitting him. Reflecting back, I probably had more guts than sense as it could easily have turned on me. However, I do believe that when you act out of a pure of heart motive to ensure justice, there is authority that is bigger than you are as a person. A great video to bring what is a very sad trend to light. Well done!"

Other notable events: We hit the 1000 visitors mark!

The second month of Breaking Perceptions

Age of Blog: 2 months

Number of visitors: unfortunately the malfunction with our layout means our visitor counter was entirely reset however, from our memory it was at least 809, which is fantastic!

Some of the countries that have visited the blog: (before the layout malfunction) India, Nigeria, South Africa, Brazil

Robyn's favourite post of the month: Batty Man - homophobia is one of the worst discrimination's in the world today and what's worse is that it is considered acceptable in many places and by many people, in particular the black community which this documentary focuses on. I admire all of those in that documentary for trying to highlight the issue and the problems it causes for gay black men around the world.

Cortez's favourite post of the month: Dreams for Kids - Although this is a short post, I have actually visited this organization. They allow you to look beyond the confining walls of your life and help others. Helping others allowed me to see who I really am, a person who can help others. This organization allows kids to realize the endless potential that lay within them. In today’s era, this is something that every child needs to experience.

The best comment of the month:
“And every time I neared a nervous lapse,
I thought of you; regained my urge to fight.
The boy was one of many native traps:
A spell they cast to gull the few who right
The awfulness of murder—it's obscene.
I testify his death was fair and clean.”

“The zombie myth we tell is not a lie.
Our lovely children: fear their vicious ways—
With wickedness a golden age did die.
This platform on the sea is home to praise
Of clans and nurture. Faith is never lost
If innocence survives—and damn the cost!”

“The books before the fall refer to crimes
In distant lands. The citadels of wealth
Ignored the spreading plague until the times
Infected them, by means of cunning stealth:
And every murder they allowed, a prayer
That God abandon us: why should it care?

The boy was only twelve, like some of you.
He had a gun, but also had a tome:
A bible book, I saw he'd read it through.
I buried him at sea—he sleeps in foam.
I needed self-redemption, some small act
To show I know that any death detracts

From every living being that loves to grow:
I buried him for me and not for show.”

Some of the countries that have visited the blog: Japan, USA, UK, Australia, Serbia, Nigeria, Iraq (to see the others just look at the Globe at the top of the page!)

Cortez's favourite post of the month: B.N.P. Wives
*It dwelled deep into the perceptions of other cultures on a mass scale. These videos showed how racist ideologies continue from generation to generation, for some the foundation for racism is being built at home.

The best comment of the month:
From Osama Bin Everywhere by Bonnie
"Thank you for writing this blog! There is defnitely a prejudice that still exists towards muslims and muslim names in particular. I heard this one story where the airplane was full and security went in to arrest a suspected terrorist (Mohammed...) and they go to the seat and find out it is a baby! So there are many cases where this still exists especially in airports where people are being profiled by their name or looks. Another time I was in the airport with someone and they asked him what is his background. He said Iraqi, and they immediately took him in for questioning. This exists but we are glad that there are people like you who are exposing the injustice and hopefully people will start realizing that there are a whole lot more nice Osamas out there! :) -Bonnie"
